We counted our blessings under a waxing gibbous yesterday, so full of food, football, friends and family that we could hardly move.
Molly’s turkey, Vinnie’s corn bread stuffing, the Askew’s famous sweet potatoes and a million other delicious treats sent enticing smells wafting through our rented cabin, and we eyed the giant wooden table longingly.
But we had a football game to watch, so we dutifully sat down in front of the TV. What a game! This year, we’re thankful for our upstart Packers, who marched into Detroit and thrilled us all.
We didn’t know, until Molly told us, that the Lions have lost 12 (now 13) straight Thanksgiving Day games when the moon is in a waxing gibbous phase.
That old half moon loomed low and large where we celebrated Thanksgiving, so we thanked it too.
We’re grateful for these special times we get to spend together, for our family near and far and the tables they shared too, and for crisp, sunny days that end under magical moons.
Bless us oh Lord and these thy gifts. Bless this table.
Now let’s run it.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us!
