Run, run as fast as you can

In many ways, the gingerbread man, with his famous “run, run as fast as you can” catchphrase, should be the spokesperson for the holiday season, when that first jingle bell can sound like a starter’s pistol.

We’re all run, running as fast as we can — to stores, for holiday clothes, gifts and food; to work, so we can earn the money to buy all those enticing presents; to the gym, so we can sweat off delicious seasonal treats; to church, so we can keep in touch with the reason for the season, to the post office, the holiday concerts, the office Christmas parties…

Oh My!

Case in point, Molly found the time to make these adorable gingerbread couples (she says cooking is her favorite stress reliever), but no time to write about them. So, I stepped in. We’re tag-teaming this post.

By that I mean, Molly whipped up the treats, and I volunteered to write about them, as penance for the cute little ginger-person I snatched off the cooling rack and, well there’s no charming word for it, ate.

We’re hoping these last few days of the holiday hectic season roll just as sweetly for you, as these little guys did for Molly.

Merry Christmas season from Molly B and Me.

Gingerbread People

1 cup of brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup butter softened

1/4 cup molasses

1 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon ginger

1 teaspoon baking soda

2 1/4 cups flour

Preheat oven to 375. Cream first four ingredients in a large bowl. Mix dry ingredients in a smaller bowl and add them to the wet. Mix well. Turn the dough on to a floured cutting board and roll it out. Keep plenty of flour on hand to keep the dough from sticking to the rolling pin. Roll the dough to a 1/4 inch thick and cut with a favorite cutter. You can use the top end of a glass if you don’t have a cookie cutter.

Bake for 10 minutes. Cool slightly on pan and then transfer to a cooling rack. When completely cool, frost and decorate to your own taste.

She’s a merry little elf, but we hardly get to see her. This is Molly right before her high school Christmas choir concert, which runs through tonight. Last night she zoomed home, frosted the ginger bread cookies and ran back out to the car to get to the next concert. She jumped in the car and said, “Wait! I still have my apron on!” Then she ran back to the house to yank it off. Hilarious.

She whipped up a batch of these for a holiday treat and to burn off a little late semester stress.

I wasn’t home when Molly decorated these bad boys, which means she is wielding that piping tool and snapping pictures at the same time – holiday multi-tasking at its finest!

She took this shot too. She’s a leftie, which makes this feat even more impressive.

Lining them up and…

Are these adorable or what? Almost too good to eat!

Almost.
