Signs of life in LaLa Land

A bustling coffee house near my brand new granddaughter’s apartment bears my name.

It’s called Lalaland and it serves some decadent drinks.

Naturally, I popped in. On a busy Saturday morning where the wait time for a takeout iced latte hovered around 45 minutes, no one was particularly interested in my LaLa origin story.

I told the guy at the checkout anyway, and then I bought myself a Lalaland trucker hat.

As I mentioned, these are heady times in LaLa land and I’m still basking in the thrill of it all.

So, I took my very tasty iced chai, in a glass that said Lalaland on one side and Be Kind on the other, on a little stroll through the neighborhood.

One of my duties as the visiting grandma is to take Benny the Wonder Dog for his morning constitutional, and I’ve enjoyed that as well.

My little LA burrito lives in a charming neighborhood full of flowering trees and well-tended yards.

Her neighborhood also boasts a bumper crop of intriguing signs.

On one corner, a giant mechanical clock lets us all know how quickly time flies. The minutes sail in on rotating axels. It’s pretty mesmerizing and I stood in the crosswalk and watched it for a while. But we had places to go (and so did everyone else).

I also ran into a couple of small, robotic delivery vehicles. I didn’t realize they had names until I looked a little closer. Pleased to meet you, Cornelia.

I took a few pictures and I hope you’ll enjoy these signs of life in LaLa Land.

I was pretty tickled with my Lalaland Iced Chai.
I’m even more tickled with the little fist-pumping burrito (and her beautiful
mother) who brought me here.
A worthy plea.
Seems like good advice.
Robot deliveries.
Why, hello Cornelia!
I think we all do.
It’s a bagel poem for my NJ sweethearts.
I’m going with a yes on this one.
It’s a beautiful city, but you pay a steep price to live here.
Life is sweet in LaLa Land.
