Baby Baby the stars are shining for you

I’ve spent the last 12 days largely in the company of a three-month old sensei.

I mean that in the literal sense.

When children ask us where babies come from, we often answer with as much biological precision as we can muster.

Sometimes I think we’d be better served if that conversation went the other way.

Imagine what we’d learn if we asked babies where they came from, if we could read all that newborns are trying to tell us with their deep, expressive eyes.

They might describe a circle of life that’s a lot more eternal than the one we talk about here.

Babies convey hope for this world, for sure, and also, I think, for the world beyond.

They laugh with their whole little bodies and encourage you to laugh too. This world would be a much happier place if everyone could pause their stressful lives and hug a baby every now and then.

I’m leaving New Jersey today a little bit sleep deprived and so very grateful for the time I got to spend with my little bagels.

We took long walks every day, and we popped into the Seton Hall Chapel so often I told our family the Monsignor was either going to bestow some obscure sacrament on us … or a restraining order. This is Ronni looking concerned on one day.
Some of the items on our prayer list happened exactly as we wished, so we had to head back and make a little gratitude visit too. This is Ronni on the day we returned to say thanks.
How could anyone be stressed out looking at this sweet little face? Babies are highly skilled emotional support mammals.
Also, she thinks I’m hilarious.
She has been an excellent co-worker too.
And, speaking of co-workers, my co-worker/friend Beth made Ronni this cute little bear hat.
Imagine what we could learn if we could decipher the thoughts behind those deep, infant eyes.
We got to dine al fresco on my last night here.
I’m gonna miss these cuties and their nightly family hugs.
