Wednesday night across all Appleton’s news stations, Thursday was decreed a snow day… and there was much rejoicing. I don’t mean to brag or anything, but the snow yesterday was pretty much all my doing. You see, last Saturday a rainstorm quickly melted away all remnants of winter. Our hope for a white Christmas looked pretty dismal, and the only way I could console myself was by checking weather.com to see if there would be any snow before Christmas. Fortunately, weather.com informed me that there would be a chance of snow on Thursday. A chance was okay, I guess. “Wouldn’t it be great if that was a huge snowstorm?” I thought to myself. And somehow the snow gods heard me.
Unfortunately, my brother wasn’t as pleased by my new-found weather abilities as I was. Because of the storm that I created, my brother had to spend five hours on a Greyhound bus stopping at every town between here and Madison. Most of my brother’s snow day was spent in a ditch somewhere near Columbus. According to him a “Lord of the Flies” like situation developed between the Appleton riders, and the Green Bay riders. Luckily, my brother made it to Appleton with his skull intact.
I was able to reap the benefits of my new weather powers yesterday, though. After sleeping in pretty late yesterday (8:00) I had a lot of time to kill before my peers woke up. I had quite a few things planned for the day, but after breakfast I forewent all of them to do absolutely nothing… and focused most of my attention on not getting run over by plows as I hiked over to my friends’ house.
We could have spent the day building snowmen, sled riding, or having a massive snow ball fight like the one my brother enjoyed in Madison just before he got on the bus to come home.
Instead, we tucked ourselves inside, watched a movie or two and gave ourselves manicures, a perfect snow day!
