Send My Love

It’s been quite a year for my daughter Katherine, her friend Hillary and the river they both love.

A few weeks ago, Katherine got married on the Oconto River’s shore. The vows she wrote celebrated that love and that river so beautifully they made us all cry.

A few years ago and a few miles downriver from that spot, Hillary got married on the Oconto River’s shore in a ceremony so beautiful it made us all cry…and then dance with wild abandon.

This week, the children’s book they wrote in the wake of all that eyeball-brimming love, goes public. The pre-order link is live and the book will be available in August.

We got to read a sneak peek and, of course, we’re thrilled.

Illustrated by the incredibly talented Hannah Ribbens, who also grew up in Appleton, the book is a rich and gorgeous tribute to the enduring power of love.

The idea for this book came to Hillary as she watched a storm make its way across the river. She told Katherine she knew they needed to work on this project together, and they did.

Hillary and Katherine have been working on projects together since they were young enough to sing in the Appleton Girl Choir. They played T-ball together, and they both came into their own as active members of the prolific Appleton North High School choir and theatre programs.

As their respective talents took them to LA, they have very actively supported each other there.

In conjunction with the book’s release, Hillary has written a lullaby and Katherine has developed a children’s workshop. Their book signings are going to be very entertaining!

And I know a little girl named Margo, a little boy named Auggie and their little friend Mae who are all going to be receiving a beautiful book soon.

Katherine and Hillary signed their book deal earlier this year. It’s been a labor of love for both of them.
They’ve been working on projects together since they were kids and, especially during their years in the Appleton North choir and theatre programs.
In Hannah Ribbens they found a gifted artist and admirable multi-tasker! Hannah created the illustrations for this book while also working as an elementary school teacher and raising two sweet daughters.
The paintings are rich and glorious (and currently, temporarily stored in my home where I check on them daily like a nervous parent of a precious child).
Hannah sketched some ideas for the book when Hillary and Katherine first met with her to talk about working together. Those first sketches aren’t in the book, but Hannah used them to write a thank you note to Hillary and Katherine at the conclusion of the project. Now, it’s a keepsake for all of them.
