We came thatclose to completing an Appleton Trifecta yesterday, and even a little inconveniently timed summer storm couldn’t chase away our admiration for this city.
Where else can you find your zen at a free, all-day yoga festival, cheer for the Udder Tuggers at a Class A baseball game and swim in a pool with five water slides, all on one lazy Sunday?
We started out at a steamy Neuroscience Group Field, home of the Timber Rattlers, to watch the Udder Tuggers play. With temperatures inching up toward 90 degrees, and humidity making the air feel so heavy we could just about wring it out, we felt every single item of clothing we wore melt itself to our bodies. Fortunately, we all also scored free Udder Tuggers jerseys that kept us from sticking to our seats on the way home.
We didn’t have to stay sweaty and hot for long, though, because we live in Appleton. As soon as we got home, we changed and headed right over to the Erb Park Pool.
Even though it seemed like about a thousand of our neighbors had the same idea, we still had a great time cooling off in the pool. Our young friend made the very happy discovery that he was just tall enough to ride the big slides, without being too tall to ride the little ones.
That slide sweet spot won’t last long, and we intend to take advantage of it as often as we can.
Storm clouds crept over the pool as we made our way home, but my intrepid friend Jill and I headed to Pierce Park for the Mandala Yoga Festival anyway.
We had just rolled out our mats in the Cosmos Tent when the wind whipped up, thunder clapped and a bolt of lightning announced the weather-induced cessation of the festival.
So, we’ll have to wait until next year to experience the festival in all its glory.
To console myself, I horned in on a spontaneous trip to Tom’s Drive-In for some ice cream and enjoyed my first hot fudge sundae of the summer.
As my young friend reminded me, you have to eat sundaes on Sunday, especially in summer!
So, I’m glad I squeezed that one in.
Thanks to Appleton for an epic day.
Now, bring in July!

Adorable!
Thanks!
One of my favorite ballparks in minor league. Getting in and out of that chair is truly a challenge but fun! And you got to see many of our former Mudcat alums. But that game was a heartbreaker. No surprise on Flores and Langhorne giving up the 5 runs. I was shocked when they were promoted. My favorite former Mudcat Marco Dinges shouldn’t even be playing there. He is one of the two T’Rats batting in the .300s. He should be in AA.
Those opening innings were rough. Your analysis on both the team and the chair are very astute.
