How lucky are we that the longest day of the year marks the official first day of summer?
We need all that extra daylight to take a leisurely morning stroll, pick a few daisies, make Mickey Mouse pancakes, slip and slide, visit our baby calf friends, jump in a pool, build a cottonwood snowman, eat blue ice cream, float down the river, listen to music, host a dance party, play a little cornhole, take an afternoon snooze, imagine the clouds, lounge on a porch swing, grill a big, fat burger, toast a square marshmallow, eat a s’more.
Here in Wisconsin, we don’t get a whole lot of summer. So, we like to make the most of our days.
I have a few items on my list I intended to get to this weekend, but ran out of time.
I want to:
Pick strawberries.
Listen to a bluegrass band.
Chase the Northern Lights.
Golf. (It’s been a few years and I really need to get back on the course. If you see me out there, though, you might want to stand clear).
Ride my purple bike to dinner.
Find an outdoor yoga class.
Take a morning walk with a friend.
Attend an outdoor mass.
Watch a parade.
Go to a city band concert.
Eat dinner al fresco under some twinkle lights
I’m curious what your list might be.
I’m so grateful one of Margo’s last days in Wisconsin (until July) was also the longest.
I’m also very conscience of time’s swift passage.
We’re losing daylight by the second.
Let’s go!

I used to love s’mores at summer camp. I guess my day of summer fun was last week when we were in Altoona seeing one of our friends who coaches the AA team there. We woke up to the smell of those amazing Cinnamon Sweet Rolls coming from the 1st floor of the Holiday Inn Express. Later that morning, we went to the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. Sadly, some of the buildings were closed due to the Weds schedule, but markers described everything we were missing. It still was an amazing 2 hour walk on a gorgeous non-humid day. We will probably go back next year. Then we stopped at Oak Spring Winery for almost two hours of spaced out wine-tasting and delightful folklore from our host. Because of the ballgame later that evening, we had midafternoon lunch at Outback. No. I didn’t indulge in the bloomin’ onion because I didn’t want to subject others to it later! We brought good luck to the Altoona AA team of the Pittsburgh Pirates. We saw 4 homeruns and Al Tuna danced after each one! Also, the Curve had an elusive win! We had a quick sandwich with our coach friend and called it a busy day/night before our 8 hour drive back to NC.
Wow! You packed a lot in!
