A grand good boy

Our new grand dog is a very good boy.

I’ve written about Benny once or twice.

He struts a little when he walks, and holds his head high. It’s not a swagger, though. Benny’s too sweet for that.

Our grand dog walks with gratitude and joy. He doesn’t say much, but his ripped left ear tells the story of his past life on the mean streets of Tijuana.

He’s so happy to have been adopted by Ed and Katherine that he rarely leaves their side.

He’s a strong little dude, who loves to snuggle. As I write this post he’s tucked in right beside me.

We’re dog-sitting him this week and it’s been a joy. The first time I took him for a walk down Drew Street, three different people asked if they could pet him and two more told me how cute his was.

I think I know what a celebrity assistant must go through when they walk their boss through a crowd.

He keeps an eye on all of us, and he also keeps an eye on the front door. As much as he loves it here, where we still have a houseful of people in the happy aftermath of the wedding, Benny would like to see Katherine and Ed walk into the room.

We’re all keeping him busy. Today, three different people took him for a total of five walks, Tara ran him through his party tricks included sit and shake, and Margo invited him to accompany her on a play date with her new friend Auggie. He happily obliges all of us.

If you see Benny around the neighborhood, feel free to say hello.

He’s a friendly little fellow with a lot of love to share.

Due to the shadow he casts and one of his breeds, Benny might look somewhat intimidating. But he’s a sweetheart who just wants to be loved.
He ran through all of his tricks with Tara, including shaking her hand.
He kept a close eye on Margo and Auggie on their play date (though he understood he needed to stay on the sidewalk area).
And he humored me by posing for this fountain photo, though it wasn’t his favorite perch.
We’re really enjoying this time together, and we’re also wearing each other out, in the very best way.

  1. Bless his heart and bless Ed and Katherine for adopting him! Grand dogs are special. My parents adored all our “kids” and had they lived longer, would have loved our Katie and Jake.
