One night in Cecil and the world’s your walleye

Last Saturday, following some spring cleaning at our cabin, we treated ourselves to a night on the town.

When the town is Cecil, that night often begins with Double Bubble, a lively social hour involving two-for-one drinks and friendly banter.

One of us could swap stories all night. The other likes to chat a little too, but also gets distracted by the lure of a sunset.

We’ve been married a long time.

Saturday night, my husband caught my eyes wandering to the window.

“You can go watch the sunset if you want,” he said.

I took off for the lakeshore across the street, plopped down on a bench and enjoyed the view.

As the sun slowly bowed, I watched a young family make its way in. Dad and three little kids docked the boat, while mom glided in on a kayak. Their excited voices carried over the still water and I smiled at the scene.

Then I dashed back to the restaurant to check on the husband I’d ditched.

He waved from a crowd of cronies, so I gave him a thumbs up and headed back to the water.

The young family and a set of grandparents had gathered around a campfire near the water, the perfect ending to a gorgeous pre-summer day.

I watched the sun set a little deeper from my spot at the end of a long dock. Eventually Vince texted that our table was ready, so I left to join him.

All that magic on an ordinary Saturday in May! I can’t wait to see what summer has in store.

Let’s go!

I’m always chasing sunsets.
And they never disappoint.
That boat making its way to shore is full of a very sweet family who made the most of their Saturday.
I headed back down a second time because it’s really hard for me to tear my eyes away from a sunset.
It’s going to be a great summer!
