I counted my blessings yesterday as I celebrated Mother’s Day with my mom.
It isn’t just that she can still hang, it’s that, 61-years after giving birth to me, the woman is still my mother.
“Your piano needs to be tuned,” she called out from my living room as she played a few songs. “I’m sending my piano tuner over. You’ll love him. He’s excellent.”
She had invited me to see “Rain,” a Beatles tribute show at the Fox Cities PAC, and she nudged me as we settled in our seats.
“I picked these seats out so we could dance,” she said. “Look, there’s no one behind us.”
Sure enough, as soon as the band played “Twist and Shout,” Grandma Peggy was on her feet, reliving her bobby socks days with impressive enthusiasm. She’d have danced all afternoon if the tribute band hadn’t segued into some of the Beatles’ more psychedelic tunes.
Later, we toasted each other with a little wine on my front porch, and ate some delicious burgers grilled by her son in-law.
In keeping with the Beatles theme, it was a good day sunshine.
I am lucky to be able to experience motherhood in all kinds of iterations and I celebrated all my people yesterday. Motherhood itself is a gift and my own journey has been a hilarious, heart-swelling joy.
It just struck me yesterday as my own mother bossed me around, how lucky we are to have her.
I hope you all had a good day sunshine too.

Congratulations to your family! Your mother is lovely and you are very fortunate to have her in your life! John, your Texas friend from Cuba!
What a sweet post! We are indeed very lucky. Mom and I sat in those seats for A Beautiful Noise and the people in front of us left at intermission giving us an unobstructed view for the rest of the show. Oh, and apparently my piano needs tuning too! 😉
I love Peg and all her adventures!!!
