And deliver us from awkward scenes in the checkout line

The thought occurred as a bunch of broccoli sailed past my head in the self-checkout line at a big box store.

“I’m Christmas shopping online this year.”

I may even have muttered it outloud, within earshot of my furious four-year old companion. He wanted to scan the items in our cart ALL BY HIMSELF!

I told him I couldn’t let him do that.

He started firing the items in our cart toward the scanner. A few of them actually scanned as they skidded past, which seemed kind of remarkable.

Had you been there, you would have been impressed with both his level of outrage and his throwing arm.

Kid’s got some skills.

Neither compliance nor patience are yet among them.

It’s okay, though, because heroes out there are working hard to help us avoid predicaments like this. They’re called delivery drivers and I am one of their biggest fans.

My friend Rose is too and, one day, she posted a picture of the basket of treats she had set out for them. I loved the idea and told her I would do the same.

So, the little munchkins and I put something together and I really hope it helps make a few very busy people a little happier during this festive, frenetic season.

No one has enough help.

Everything is too expensive.

All of our to-do lists are a little too long.

But, it’s still the season of joy and I’m hoping we can all help each other through it. (or, threw it, if you happened to be among the many people standing in line behind us while my little pitcher was hurling his grocery cart fastballs).

P.S. It also occurs to me that my extra bright Christmas lights might keep the basket of goodies on my front porch from freezing this year. So, I guess I did know what I was doing all along. Ha!

Rose posted this picture on her very entertaining Instagram account and I thought it was such a great idea that…
…I did it too! All of the delivery drivers and mail carriers I’ve seen have stopped and helped themselves to a little something.
My inventory associate and I are taking a nice long break from big box stores.
