When it comes to old car appreciation, I’m really more Holden Caulfield than Jay Leno.
Give me a smooth ride, a couple of working headlights, and I’m good to go.
Currently, I drive a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle and I’m pretty sure I’ll never love another car more.
So, when I figuratively, and then literally, stumbled unto two car shows this past weekend, I pulled out my camera instead of my wallet.
Still, I had a great time.
Friday, I took myself to Appleton’s License to Cruise, on the way home from dinner with my mom and sister. Curious about all the fuss and barricades, I parked, eased into the pleasant mass of people and got busy taking pictures. So intent was I on getting a clear shot of a yellow car, that I didn’t even notice a sweet woman holding back the foot traffic just for me and my trusty camera.
I’m telling you, these people were kind!
On Saturday, during a weekend with college friends, we stumbled into the Green Lake Car Show as we walked from our parking spot to the American Legion Pancake and Porkie breakfast.
I could have spent all day taking pictures of those cars and that Harvest Festival, but we had a busy schedule to keep and super fluffy pancakes to eat.
I still don’t really know a piston from a carburetor, but I did enjoy “photo shopping” my way through the car shows.
Here’s what I brought home:
