Last night we trapped a leprechaun who sneaked inside our door
We knew we’d snagged the elfin thief when we heard his squeaky roar.
I tip toed downstairs carefully, prepared to call my niece
Who’d showed me how to snare a sprite; she rigged it piece by piece.
“We’ve got him now,” I thought I’d say. “The naughty gnome is here.”
But when I peeked inside the trap, the puck had disappeared.
I checked around quite carefully; I looked under the door
But I didn’t find a single thing I hadn’t seen before.
And when I took a closer peek I found he’d been quite bold
He even took the lure we’d used — a penny painted gold.
He must have been quite startled as he sprinted with his loot
’cause he left behind a perfect trail of prints made by his boot.
I caught a faint voice echo from the shadow that I saw
“I’ll see you next year, blarney lass, Ha! Ha! Erin Go Bragh!”
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, from Molly, Erin and Me.
Here we are, all set to put the finishing touches on our trap. Some day my niece, the aptly named Erin, will catch a leprechaun. She knows all about how to do it thanks to her cousin Olivia. We added a ruler/ramp so our trap would be up to code and we thought a real, stuffed leprechaun might make him feel at home. Of course, any leprechaun trap worth its shamrocks needs a rainbow. Erin drew ours. Here she is putting the finishing touches on the interior. We lured him in with a nice bed and breakfast set-up. The golden penny rests on the bed like a magical pillow treat. This is what I found when I heard a noise in the middle of the night. A shiny green trail of tiny footprints led to the door, along with a couple of gold nuggets that had fallen out of his pot of gold. We just missed him!! Curiously, the stuffed leprechaun had found his way into the red sports car and was preparing to make a get-away as well. We apprehended him, but he’s not talking.
