It looked a little rocky for the Lambeau team that day.
The score stood 21 -10 with but one half left to play
after Witherspoon lumbered 70 yards to pick an awkward six.
A pall like silence filled the air. Our playoff hopes seemed nixed.
A straggling few got up to go, in anger and despair.
The rest held to their hope which clung like ice on frozen hair.
A gentleman stepped forward from the south end of the field
He wore a yellow jacket as the jumbotron revealed.
He moved with grace to take his place on Lambeau’s fabled wall
Nitschke! Davis! Jordan! He represented all.
With Coach Lombardi looking down fans gave a rousing cheer
Some hoisted signs and toasted him with icy cans of beer.
With tears in eyes that searched the skies stood kind Dave Robinson
He thanked the fans and players, and reminded everyone
that Green Bay built its legacy on freshly frozen sod
and other teams might have their fans, but Packers walked with God.
Today there’s joy in Titletown, a hope we can reclaim
For after Roby’s halftime speech, our Packers won the game.
Here’s a quick clip of Packer Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Robinson’s halftime speech. He calls the Packers “God’s Team.”

- Our hero just before his speech. Understandably emotional, he gave a lovely speech. He also braved the elements admirably in an esteemed though flimsy blazer.
Fireworks went off during the unveiling of Dave Robinson’s name. Well-intentioned but utterly failed half-time stunt. In defense of the crowd, it was really cold, hard to feel our fingers and no one was really sure what we were doing. Still, this is pretty embarrassing. Look closely, the last name on the left is the covered Dave Robinson. It wouldn’t be a winter Packer post without a shot of my sister Kathy and me bundled up to our eyeballs. That’s not an animal on her head, just her beloved hunter’s flap-eared cap. My nephew Wilson left this cute message on my car after the game. Thank you to Dave Robinson as well for representing a team, a franchise and an era with class.
