The Midwestern summer can be very maternal, as evidenced by this past weekend.
She leaves because she has to, thanks to that whole circle of life thing.
But, she checks back on us every now and then, to make sure we’re doing ok.
As summer saw, when she swooped into autumn these past few days, the kids are alright here in Wisconsin.
We had a glorious weekend full of sunshine, bursts of color and excellent showings by our sports teams.
On Saturday, I got to ride up Granite Peak Mountain with two accommodating, though not entirely thrilled companions. One hates to stand in line, and had to suffer through a long, hot one as we slowly wound our way to the chair lift.
The other hates heights, and had to sit in a tippy seat with a harness that never really locks.
I’m grateful to both of them for humoring my whims. We saw some gorgeous views.
On Sunday, we made our way into Lambeau Field with guarded expectations. Our beloved Packers haven’t looked all that great so far this year, with their hobbled roster and propensity to commit penalties.
But, yesterday, they put together their best game at Lambeau in more than a year and it was really fun to be there.
I love a noon Packer game and I especially enjoyed this one.
Then, the boys of summer showed up and we got to cap off the weekend with last night’s 2-1 Brewer win against the Dodgers in the opening game of the National League Championship Series.
We watched that game from our family room, though it would have been cool to head right to it from Lambeau.
I wonder how many people did.
These are heady days for Wisconsin sports fans.
Let’s go!
