I took a long walk Saturday afternoon and thought about how delightful simple pleasures can be.
That my walk took place in the middle of a river made both the simplicity and the delight more evident.
Have you ever strolled up a river and let the cool current massage your old achy muscles?
I did and I promise you it’s a 10/10 experience.
Three times I hiked north and then floated south and three times I asked myself why I hadn’t indulged in this particular form of exercise more often.
A gorgeous bald eagle raised a wing at me and I gave it a conspiratorial nod.
A three-generational family of kayakers floated past and sent a friendly wave my way. If they found it odd to spot a solo hiker heading up the river, they politely refrained from comment.
A few times I paused just to smile and take it all in.
We live in a frenetic world full of stress, deadlines and to-do lists that never end.
So, when we get a chance to step aside for an hour or two, isn’t it amazing how refreshed we can feel?
I hope you find moments of unscripted delight this week. And, I’m telling you, if you ever get the chance to take a solo walk up a river, jump on in.
You’ll be glad you did.
