Like Meg Ryan’s character in You’ve Got Mail, I am a big fan of daisies.
The fragile appearance of their petals belie the determined stretch of their roots. They stand tall against inevitable storms with an admirable reliability.
Harbingers of joy, they spring up early, stay late and tend happily to the task at hand. Daisies wear their beauty like an everyday cardigan, unaware of their impact on a world that sorely needs the warmth.
They both follow and reflect the sun.
The friendliest flower thrives in generous ground.
A house in my neck of the woods has grown a yard full of daisies and ferns with a delightful sense of community. They don’t just offer an optimistic view, they invite all comers to snip themselves a bouquet. They even hang a pair of scissors from their front porch railing to support the cause.
I’m grateful to live in a world with daisies and in a neighborhood that both cultivates and shares them.
