It’s just a game, but…

I know it’s just a game, not markedly different than the one little kids play on Saturday mornings.

But, man, doesn’t it feel good to cheer for something every now and then?

Lambeau Field looked particularly gorgeous last night, all lit up outside and in. I held my cellphone flashlight aloft and just took it all in.

The playing field can be beautiful. When the world outside it challenges us, we can find a release in sports.

We stomp our feet, clap our hands, dance the polka and yell. It fires us up and calms us down.

When 70,000 people chant “Go Pack Go!” it sounds like one, cool voice that echoes through generations.

We need to hear that kind of unity every now and then so we know it exists.

For three hours, you can set aside the worries of the day, and spend time with people about whom you know very little except how much they love the game.

I had a great time last night for so many reasons. I got to hang out with family and friends, the weather was perfect, Sterling Sharpe got his Hall of Fame ring, and my Packers beat the Commanders 27-18.

Today, I’m grateful to be a Packer fan.

Go Pack Go!

We had a great group of family and friends.
And we brought the A Team to our seats.
These two have been friends their entire lives.
Another great game with my LA-based daughter. I’m feeling extra grateful for that.
Sterling Sharpe’s ring ceremony at halftime was cool too. My sister Kathy reminded me that, when our dad was an honorary captain for the Packers in 1992, he was nervous about his pre-game speech. So he was especially touched when Sterling Sharpe came up to him after the game, shook his hand and said, “Thanks for the talk Mr. Kostelnik.” The aptly named Sterling is a great athlete and a gentleman.
The flyover was cool too. God bless America.
