Your fair Sherri of the good vibes

Sherri Shepherd doesn’t mince words, but she does choose them carefully and she doles them out with the kind of grace and wit we all need in this crazy old world.

She and her daytime talk show are palate cleansers for the indigestible diet of confounding messages our newsfeeds burp up at us every day.

“Hey family!” she says as she struts out to open her show.

“Hey Sherri!” her audience shouts back, as though we’re all cousins at a summer reunion.

I like to watch the show in the morning while I’m getting ready for my day. The show airs at 11 a.m. here in Appleton, which is when I’m at work, but I can stream it on her YouTube Channel anytime. So, I like to watch it as part of my morning routine because it sets the tone for the rest of the day.

I like to leave the house smiling.

We got to see the show live this week, which is even better (and not just because we’re partial to a certain senior producer and assistant director there.)

In person, Sherri is even warmer and more enthusiastic than she is on screen. Although she was taping a second show after the live one we saw, Sherri stayed after the first one to chat with the audience and thank them for coming.

Everyone, from security to the audience coordinator to executive producers Jawn Murray and Fernita Wynn, exudes kindness and joy. “DJ Suss One” took selfies with anyone who asked — and a lot of people asked.

Sherri likes to “give people their flowers” on her show and on Monday she gave them to Gloria Gaynor and Joaquina Kalukango, who plays Gloria in the Lifetime movie I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story. The movie premieres Saturday night.

If you aren’t able to watch Sherri from the audience, or even when it airs in your town, I highly recommend subscribing to the SherriShowTV YouTube channel and treating yourself to some of that fun.

Everyone deserves their fair Sherri of those good vibes.

Our son Charlie, a senior producer on the show, humored me with this little group shot outside the studio. It’s pretty clear he’s anxious to get us to our spot in the studio and get on with his job. He’s a good kid, though, and he paused for his goofy parents.
A friendly fellow-audience member offered to take our picture while we waited in the holding area, and we happily agreed.
We’re getting a big kick out of ourselves here and this picture is especially notable because Vince took it.
Here’s where the magic happens.
A post-show shot of Sherri, her assistant director (and our daughter in-law) Tara, Charlie and us.
My sister Kathy, a loyal Sherri fan, took this shot of us during Monday’s show.
