Holiday time

Holiday time moves gently anyway. Blur-edged days roll past, unobstructed by tasks, just the quick shake of a Monopoly dice or the studied placement of a puzzle piece.

Maybe you mine the leftovers for a little afternoon snack, order takeout or convince someone to make their famous popcorn for dinner and a movie.

You could work out or take a hot yoga class or just sleep in — all equally restorative options.

During those hazy days after the Christmas frenzy and before the New Year, you might not even comb your hair.

Time stretches out like the last, most precious gift under the Christmas tree and you get to give it to each other.

Then, here in Wisconsin, a thick fog rolled in the day after Christmas. We got to curl right back up under it and relax.

What a gift!

The fog postponed flights out of Appleton for two whole days. That meant more family walks, more time to watch movies, more crowded tables.

Our favorite Spider-Man turned seven during this year’s glorious gloaming period and, thanks to grounded flights, he got to celebrate with a whole wild crew of friends and family.

We ate tteokguk soup for good luck in the new year. (A delicious tradition I look forward to continuing).

We tweaked a few projects and made plans for the coming months.

Those extra days together felt like a gift from Mother Nature. We’ll add her to our list of thank you note recipients, with love and gratitude for the extra holiday time.

We took advantage of the grounded flights to take a nice, slow walk together.
…tried to recreate the Ring Dance at City Park…
…and stuck our faces in the sun.
One of us may or may not have forgotten to comb her hair.
They indulged me with a mirror selfie.
And our favorite Spider-Man ended up with lots of people to help him celebrate his big day.
