Hello Again Hello

The morning after I very spontaneously wrote that I was suspending this blog, I skidded into an obscure coffee shop in Manhattan and squinted hard at the menu there. I felt a tap on my shoulder and spun around in horror, imagining that I was about to be the subject of some “Klutzy People of New York” Instagram Account.

Instead, I saw my daughter Katherine, who had flown all the way from L.A. to New York to surprise me. That story would have made a good blog, I thought.

She and I then headed over to the studio to attend a taping of Sherri!, the delightful talk show that employs both my son and daughter in-law. It was a Take Your Mother to work day that would have made perfect blog.

During the show, I got to meet Huey Lewis. My husband Vince and I saw Huey Lewis and the News on a date at Alpine Valley back in 1985. I am happy to report that our subsequent marriage and Huey Lewis are both thriving, though Huey is battling through a tragic hearing loss. Man, this would have been a really good blog, I thought.

Later that day, I got to pick my baby granddaughter up from daycare. I taught her a new game in which I shamelessly repeated my nickname to her and she giggled uncontrollably each time I said it.

“You probably could have gotten about five blogs out of this weekend,” my son, her dad, Charlie, said as he watched us play.

The next day, I turned 60 and I could not believe how exhilarating that experience turned out to be. I would have loved to have written a post about how gorgeous life looks on the far side of the hill.

I regretted suspending the blog almost as soon as I did it and I had a hard time reading the very kind comments that followed.

Since I left, though, my daughter Katherine and I have interviewed 20 people and written 23 chapters of a book we are very excited to share some day soon. We are feeling some pressure to get this book out because our subjects are well into their 80’s and 90’s and our primary goal is to honor them.

We want them to enjoy this book more than anyone because they are the heroes of it.

We’ll keep you posted on that.

Man oh man, it feels good to be back.

My daughter in- law Danni took this picture on a recent trip we all took to Ireland. (I could probably write 100 posts about that beautiful country). Danni takes the best jumping photos of her ridiculous mother in-law and I’m really glad she took this one. It perfectly captures how I feel to be back. I have so much to tell you all!

  14. What a thrill to open my email and find the notification from you! Yes… we ALL know how much you were missed. On your Facebook or Instagram, in addition to “Likes” of what you posted, there were probably more “I miss you” in the comments than the comments about the post! I was thrilled to hear your time included writing a book and look forward to its debut!
    Yes, Huey Lewis is amazing. I had him and his band from DFW to SFO and he sang for us prior to boarding. Hearing loss is tough even if the person wears hearing aids. My husband is same way from being around jets.
    LOVE the last picture reminding me of Mary Tyler tossing her hat in the opening of her show! It’s YOU! Welcome back!
