December is here, before it is June

I corked my wining about the incessant rain here in Wisconsin by attending a wedding shower for our friend Abbie Wednesday night.

And, though I have a little PTSD from my last outing with these intimidatingly talented women, I ended up with a belly full of laughter and chocolate. Really, there’s no better way to spend a wet Wednesday in December.

We toasted a sweet bride I first met when she played wide receiver to her brother’s quarterback in a competitive Pop Warner football league. In high school she sang the national anthem at varsity basketball games, and then played power forward on the floor.

A packed church, including my husband and me, welled up when she sang to her husband during the wedding ceremony. We had all just recovered from that beautiful moment when she sprang the father/daughter dance on us, waltzing gracefully with our friend Gary while a song she secretly wrote and recorded accompanied them.

I need a moment to catch my breath from the memory of those sweet scenes…

Fortunately for me and my tear ducts, Abbie’s post-wedding shower turned out to be a little more blithe.

We played reindeer games and dressed competitively as human Christmas trees; drank cosmos and nibbled delicious holiday treats.

Time flies, of course, when you’re having fun, and I thought about Dr. Suess as I watched Abbie, now a Doctor of Chiropractic, graciously acknowledge each shower gift.

How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?

Congratulations Abbie and Goody. We’re infinitely proud to call you friends. And thank you to Liz and Margi for hosting a genuinely good time.
