On Saturday our favorite little miracle celebrated her 12th birthday.
Like other small miracles, sunrises and rainbows, our favorite little miracle glows with a sweet affirmation of life in all of its glorious colors. Naturally, then, her favorite ensembles feature tie-dye and glitter.
Born on Friday the 13th, a full three months early, Kelly weighed just over two pounds at birth with arms so tiny her Dad’s wedding ring hung loosely from her petite pipes.
She spent her first three months in the hospital, and had surgery four months later to repair scar tissue on her trachea.
Despite (or possibly because of) her rough first year, Kelly bounces through life with an enviable joie de vivre, a beloved daughter, sister, step-sister, step-daughter, granddaughter, god-daughter, niece, teammate, band mate, cast mate and friend.
The normal happy chaos of sixth grade life orbits around her as she moves from the soccer field to the stage.
And that tiny baby with the surgically repaired trachea now makes appearances all over the Fox River Valley as the lead singer of the Tiny Turtles, a truly talented little rock group.
From her vibrant fashion sense to her equally bright smile, Kelly exudes joy and optimism.
We can sum up her journey from skinny newborn to bright little star in one word: miraculous.
