Molly and I took a quick trip to Chicago this weekend where we celebrated American Ingenuity outside a sweet little cupcake shop.
There my six-year old niece introduced us to the magic of the cupcake ATM.
That’s right, in the heart of Chicago, outside a branch of the famous Sprinkles Cupcake Bakery, sits a pink machine that offers 24-hour access to fresh cupcakes.
The sheer brilliance enchanted us.
We watched Erin carefully choose her Milk Chocolate Cupcake from the nifty touch screen. A quick swipe of her mother’s credit card sent thumbnail pictures of cupcakes dancing across the screen…chocolate peanut butter…strawberry…s’mores…dark chocolate banana…red velvet cake…
She made her selection and watched a brown cupcake box cheerfully dance into a chute and appear at her fingertips.
I half expected Gene Wilder and his merry band of Oompa-Lloompas to appear.
As I noshed on a s’mores cupcake (fudge cake dipped in graham crackers with a gooey toasted marshmallow topping) I watched a line form in front of the cupcake ATM.
Later, I checked the statistics.
The Chicago Cupcake ATM, which just opened in August, anticipates that it will distribute an average of 1,000 cupcakes a day for a gross intake of nearly $1.46 million a year.
We’re not advocating cupcake consumption here, we’re just saluting the clever people that put them in an ATM and we’d like to add ingenuity to the qualities we most admire in the American Worker.

I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior
to writing. I’ve had a difficult time clearing my
thoughts in getting my ideas out there. I truly do enjoy writing
however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure
out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Thanks!
Thank you! I get my best ideas away from the blog and then I get excited to sit down and write about it, although there are many times I sit down and have to clear my head too. Some of these blog posts flow easily and others sort of drip out word by painful word.
