It’s launch week for the Lambeau Ladies!

Three years ago, my daughter Katherine suggested we work on a project together to celebrate some of the strong, elegant, funny, intelligent women we know.

Of course, I agreed. Who wouldn’t?

I got to work with my daughter, honor my mother, and interview a whole slew of interesting people who played key roles in my favorite team, the greatest franchise in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers.

Thus came Lambeau Ladies — the Boundary-Breaking Women Behind Lombardi’s Packers.

Since then, we conducted more than 30 interviews with the Packers wives of the 1960s, their husbands, families and friends. We wrote a book, put together a podcast, and this week we get to launch it all.

The first episode of our podcast hit the air yesterday. You can find it on all your favorite platforms here. We’re excited for you to hear about the Ice Bowl from the ladies’ perspective. Listen carefully to the voices of the people who were there. You can hear Dana Caffey’s Packer charm bracelet clink as she talks about how Lee Roy came back to their apartment to warn her about the cold; you can catch the Texas twang in Barbara Gregg’s voice as she talks about the bitter cold, and catch the astonishment Gwen Jeter maintains after all these years about how she sat through that crazy, exciting, historical game.

The book launches this week, too. We have a book signing Tuesday in Madison at Mystery to Me bookstore. If you’re in the Madison area, we hope to see you at 6 p.m. We’re coming at you with four generations of Lambeau Ladies because, in the time we started this project, Katherine got engaged, got married, got pregnant and had a baby.

My mom, Peggy Kostelnik, Katherine, me and Katherine’s daughter Laura June are all headed to Madison on Tuesday.

Then, we’re launching our book on Thursday at the Appleton Public Library. We’ll all be there, along with a Lambeau Lady or two. At that event, we’re also bringing some special treasures for you to see — the silver tea set Coach Lombardi gifted the ladies, the first contract my dad signed when he was drafted by the Packers in 1961, the first Super Bowl ring, and the NFL issue blazer Coach Lombardi ordered for all his players.

We’ll be at Lion’s Mouth Bookstore in Green Bay for a book talk and signing on Friday evening from 5:30 to 6:30, and at Novel Bay Bookstore in Sturgeon Bay for a book signing on Saturday morning at 10.
