Weathering the storms

The lights flickered a bit yesterday as a frozen rain pelted the windows and a steady stream of fire trucks raced by.

Spring storms in Wisconsin can be particularly challenging. An icy sarcophagus traps budding branches and sends them crashing to the ground.

Broken limbs lay across streets all over town and leave jagged edges on the trees they’d left behind.

You might wonder, on days like that, whether spring will survive the assault. What happens to those tiny, eager little buds that showed up just a little too early for the party.

Of course, Wisconsin trees and the people who love them are made of much sterner stuff. And the storms we weather only strengthen our resolve.

Our roots dig deeper and we learn to stand tall in the wake.

Faith helps, of course, and the understanding that weren’t not alone.

Even the most ferocious storm eventually passes and life looks even better on the other side.

Happy Easter weekend! May the blessings of the season bring you peace and joy.

An icy sarcophagus trapped this tender tree yesterday, and its daisy bike adornment. Spring storms bring a special kind of beauty, though, and the promise of brighter days ahead.
