We have a new neighbor on Sweet Street with a delicious story to share.
The Pastry Lover, a Chilean and North American fusion bakery, opened a few weeks ago. It features beautiful cakes and cookies with a South American flair.
Owners Anne Marie Fernandez and Hernan Barros, along with their kids Pedro and Columba, moved to Wisconsin from Chile three years ago.
Their menu includes decadent treats like a thousand layer cake and alfajores, a cookie layered with dulce de leche and chocolate.
I popped in Monday afternoon and picked up the prettiest little bento raspberry cake and a couple of alfajores, one chocolate and one strawberry.
I shared my loot with the rest of my house and we all loved them. All three pastries had layers of manjar, a Chilean form of dulce de leche that tasted rich and delicious.
I love how intentionally Ann Marie and her family are introducing Chilean flavors to Wisconsin. They even have little information cards that explain the history behind their treats, some of which have been around for more than a thousand years!
My legendary high school Spanish teacher, Gladys Wisnefski, would have been so proud. She came to Wisconsin from her native Chile as well.
With the addition of the Pastry Lover, Wisconsin Avenue now has Simple Simon Bakery, Frios Ice Cream Parlor, and Wilmar’s chocolate, four excellent confectionaries all within eight blocks. It really is the sweetest street in all the land.
Check out the Pastry Lover, a family-run bakery with elegant treats for every occasion.
And bienvenido to the neighborhood!
