We’ve been calling my sisters the Little Girls for more years than they’d care for me to repeat.
Born three years apart, the two youngest girls in our family shared a room (and even, for a few years, one double bed). They wore matching clothes until Kathy, the older of the two, put her foot down and demanded she be allowed to develop her own style. (Who am I kidding? Kathy was the pacifist in our loud clan. She probably wrote a gentle note to my parents and left it on their pillow when no one was around.)
In any case, though they have wildly different personalities, they’ve been linked since the youngest, Jenny’s, birth, and they’ve been cracking us up with their antics ever since.
This past Saturday, the Little Girls threw their niece a wedding shower that ended up showcasing some of the greatest gifts that lucky young woman has ever received — her aunts.
They came from all over — Great Aunt Doris drove in from Minnesota for the occasion, and back the same day. Aunt Carol flew in from Oregon. Aunt Donna shook off the jet lag from a European adventure and drove in from Illinois. Aunt Melissa, who recently completed the runDisney 10-miler, also drove in from Illinois. Aunts Cary, Elaine, Nancy and Robin made their way to the festivities from various cities in Wisconsin.
When the aunts come marching in, we always say hurrah!
We’re so grateful for the opportunity to spend an afternoon in aunt-icipation of the big wedding and in the company of so many warm and wonderful people.
Thank you to the Little Girls for throwing such a lovely party and to all the aunts (and cousins and friends and, of course, Grandma Peggy) for helping us celebrate.
We’ll see you all again soon!
