Whether you’re a voter who is feeling triumphant today, or devastated, you can take steps to help the country you love move forward.
Here are four ideas.
- Thank your candidate for running. Email, message or call the candidates you supported and let them know you appreciated their efforts. Running for office, especially in today’s climate, is a brave a difficult thing to do. You can honor their efforts by listing specific reasons you supported them. Those words will be a step toward making you feel better too.
- Get to know your local representatives. The focus in this particular election was on the national stage, but politics begins at home. Call, write or make an appointment to see your local representative and discuss your concerns and ideas. Our system of government is still representative and your voice matters. I hope everyone still believes that.
- Volunteer. You can support the values you believe in by helping out in other ways. Support your local schools, shelters, food banks, hospitals or other causes. Do something positive for those organizations today. Those efforts always offer reciprocal comfort.
- Be kind. Treat yourself and your friends and neighbors with extra kindness today. We’ve just been through an extremely contentious time and we’ve got to move forward. I hope we can do so with kindness, empathy and strength.

Thank you for this sweet message……I needed to hear it and take heed.
Thank you for reading it. I hope you have a good day today and moving forward.
Everyone was a winner in this election even the ones whose candidate didn’t win. We’re winners because the horrific negative ads which split this fragile nation are finally over! 53 years has passed since I was legal to vote and stood in line to exercise my right. In all those years, I never saw an election like this one. Let’s hope our nation heals and all of us in the middle reap the rewards.
