A Mile of Love

The support Dave Willems and his Mile of Music community offers their performers extends miles, even 850 miles, beyond College Avenue.

Starting Wednesday night and extending through the weekend, the Mile of Music team will be hosting a fundraiser for hurricane victims, especially those in the devastated city of Asheville, North Carolina. That area of the country is home to several MoM musicians.

Mile of Love is a free concert series with featured performers like Nick Gonnering and Friends, the Belle Weather and friends, Jon and Steve Wheelock, Rob Anthony and more.

We saw Lone Canary Wednesday night in what turned out to be the kickoff event and we enjoyed a sweet, touching performance. Musicians can really connect with their audience in venues like Gibson Hall. I am hoping to make it down again to see the Wheelocks perform Saturday night.

All of these concerts are free. The venue is serving complimentary sweet and salty snacks as well, and the bar will be open for drink purchases.

I love to listen to live music anyway and it feels especially good to do so for a cause.

You don’t have to stay for the full sets (though I bet you’ll want to). If you have other plans, you can just swing down and drop a little cash into the Drum located right inside the front door.

Hope to see you there!

I love the way our community supports its local and visiting musicians. It’s even cooler when it goes that extra 850 miles.
