Sending love downstream

I spent the weekend of America’s birthday with a bunch of deep thinkers.

One of them asked if he could pick some wild flowers and send them down the river.

I wondered why he would want to do that when the flowers seemed so happy right where they were.

“Because flowers are like love,” he said.

“So you want to send some love down the river?” I asked.

“Yes,” he said.

I thought that seemed like a fine thing to do.

So, he and his brother plucked a few flowers and tossed them in the river and we watched them float merrily away. The whole scene warmed our hearts and we’d like to think those flowers made some other people smile too.

Maybe that’s the way we should all kick off America’s 247th year, by sending a little love downstream.

That’s what we’re going to try to do here anyway.

Happy Fourth of July, with love and soggy petals from us all!

A low and clear river made kind of an interesting tableau as the flowers made their way downstream.
It seemed like a cheerful chapter in a wild flowers life, to float down a river spreading love and good cheer. I imagined I spotted a couple of them give a petal pageant wave.
We’re going to kick off this year in America’s life by sending love downstream. Happy Fourth of July!
