Things I did, didn’t do and should have done this weekend

Thanks to the deer hunt, which claimed two members of my household, and a hefty work and social schedule, which claimed another, I found myself with a lovely stretch of time all to myself this weekend.

I enjoyed myself immensely and tried to take full advantage of each glorious moment. In my quest to maximize my me time, I successfully checked some things off my to-do list. I also happily avoided some things that I should have done but really didn’t want to do, and I had to skip a few things I would have liked to have done but ran out of time.

First the things I did do. I took an excellent hot yoga class that left me both exhilarated and relaxed; Christmas shopped (bit of a fail here. I’m not much of a shopper so I was absurdly pleased with my purchase of a pair of pretty earrings for my new daughter in-law, who, my son later reminded me, does not have pierced ears. I really have to work on my elf skills); took a long walk with a friend, took another long walk by myself, made plans to walk with another friend; chatted with my daughter; chatted with my other daughter; chatted with my son; chatted with my other son; mini-binged four episodes of The Crown; did a few loads of laundry, sipped a little wine with friends; drank a little tea with friends; had my first ever facial; attended a really lovely tri-lingual mass; watched the Packer game; ate a delicious dinner prepared by my nephew.

Things I did not do included raking leaves, getting a flu shot, putting my Christmas lights up, organizing my closet, grocery shopping, doing any prep work for Thanksgiving, cleaning the bathrooms. I really should have done all of those things.

Logistics prevented me from seeing any live music (including the concert I wanted to see Friday night), or eating at any of my favorite grown-up restaurants, or seeing any shows but, it turns out that even Me Days have only 24 hours and I guess you have to include a little sleep time. I’ll keep those on my weekend wish list though.

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the way my weekend rolled out (except that awful Packer game). I hope you all had an excellent weekend and I really hope everyone had a safe and happy hunt.

What do you do when you find yourself with a little time to yourself?

I’m really a soap and water kind of girl, but I figured it was about time for me to grow up and get a facial.
Especially since my esthetician was the lovely Ruby Hoffman, who I’ve known for nearly all of her 22 years. She has a really nice set up. Please contact me if you’d like more information about her services.
We celebrated mine and my friend Hsing-Yi’s maiden facials with glowing skin and a little wine, courtesy of my friend and former college roommate Trish.
Honestly, if you want to breathe in some warm, kind air treat yourself to a hot yoga class.
Wrapped up the weekend with some upside down pizza prepared by my nephew Michael.
