Faithful Blog-reader, I’m terribly sorry to have misled you, but my name isn’t really Molly. No, like Molly Pitcher and Molly Lincoln, my real name is Mary. Mary Margaret Biskupic. I’m fortunate enough to be named after both of my Grandmas. One of the greatest gifts my parents ever gave was my name, because with it came many legacies. Many of the skills and best qualities were given to me by the women I’m named after.
Mary Jane Biskupic is my humorous grandma on my dad’s side. Along with my first name I inherited many of her interests and skills. Mary Jane has a flair for writing and wit, along with the patience to raise nine children. It’s unlikely, though, that I inherited the last one. She keeps busy with weekly yoga and several writers’ workshop classes.
Peggy (Margaret) Kostelnik, is my adventurous grandma on my mom’s side. She’s always moving and active. She’s never shies away from a challenge, whether it be a state tennis tournament or a climb to Machu Picchu. Grandma Peggy is also a gifted writer and avid reader. Having been a High School English teacher, I enjoy discussing the books I’m reading with her.
Although I go by Molly, the legacy I’ve inherited from my two namesakes has not been lost. I have an enthusiasm for reading and writing. I never say no to an adventure, and I try to be as witty as my Grandmas. Mary Margaret is one of the most significant gifts my parents ever gave me.
