Sister Act

This week we celebrated National Siblings Day by saluting sisters, especially ours.
Here’s to the toe painters, eyebrow pluckers, sweater sharers, glass raisers, belly laughers, truth tellers, cookie dunkers, advice givers, movie raters, book reviewers, theatre goers, tea sippers, football followers.
Here’s to the girls who roll their eyes, but have our backs.
Here’s to our mother’s daughters, our daddy’s girls. Here’s to the girls who call us up and call us out.
Here’s to the godmothers and bridesmaids, guardians and friends.
We salute the childhood sharers and smile wearers, the head nodders and joke fodders, memory makers and vacation takers.
Here’s to the ground strokers, free throw chokers, spiral throwers, skull rowers, ball hoggers, slow joggers, hang gliders and wave riders.
God bless the sisters, the links in the chain. Keep safe the sweet ones, protect them from pain.
Here’s to the sisters, the coolest we know. They uphold tradition and make families grow.

This is me with my sisters Kathy and Jenny. I spent National Siblings day in the hospital with Kathy, the middle sister. She has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
Kathy’s a mountain climber, though. She bounced back from a 9 1/2 hour surgery this week with her typical pluck. (See related posts.) She will have to battle through extensive chemo and radiation. Prayers and well wishes are welcome.
Six sets of sisters made up the party at Kathy’s awesome wedding last June in Florida.
This is Packer legend Fuzzy Thurston choking Kathy and me in one of his famous bear hugs. Kathy and I have been going to Packer games together for well over 20 years.
Molly has enjoyed the kind attention of her big sister Katherine since day one.
Katherine came home to help Molly get ready for her first high school dance.
