Whooping it up with the Lambeau Ladies

While writing can be a solitary process, our project has felt like a big, ole party.

As my daughter Katherine and I wrote Lambeau Ladies — the Boundary-Breaking Women Behind Lombardi’s Packers, and sifted through the interviews we recorded for the podcast, we transported ourselves back to Green Bay in the 1960s right along with our subjects.

We loved interviewing the Lambeau Ladies and their families, and hearing their stories. Then, even better, we got to write these incredible ladies back to a very special time in their lives.

As Katherine said, it felt really good to put all the ladies, those who are still here and those who have passed on, back into the same room together for a time, a “Hen Party” for the ages.

You’ll hear their voices and their contagious laughter in the podcast, and you’ll see the pictures they shared with us and read each of their unique stories in the book.

You’ll even get to meet some of the ladies in person at a few of these book tour stops.

I’m telling you, these women are a delight.

The book comes out August 4th and we”ll be in Madison that day for a book signing at Mystery to Me from 6 to 7 p.m.

Then, we have our big book launch at the Appleton Public Library on August 6th at 6 p.m. We’ll be signing books after that presentation, and we’re bringing along some special people and a few display items as well.

On Friday, August 7, we’ll be at Lion’s Mouth Book Store in Green Bay from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday August 8 we’ll be at Novel Book Store in Sturgeon Bay at 10 a.m.

You can hear more about our project this Friday, July 17 at noon on the Focus Fox Valley show on WHBY.

We can’t wait for you to meet the Lambeau Ladies!

Among our first interviews, was the witty Ruth Ann Skoronski, wife of Bob Skoronski, pictured here after our interview with me, my mom, Peggy Kostelnik and my daughter Katherine.
The next day, we sat down with Dana Caffey, who also told some lively stories about her time in Green Bay. She and Lee Roy Caffey enjoyed a lifelong love affair — literally. They met when they were just a few days old.

During that first round of interviews, we also got to talk to the elegant Barbara Knippel, former wife of Jerry Kramer.
Writing might be solitary, but cheering for the Packers is anything but. We loved using the former to celebrate the latter in this project. Go Pack Go!
