The road and our spirits always rise when we meet them in Stockholm

We followed a metaphorical rainbow to Stockholm, Wisconsin on Saturday and found a treasure more precious than gold — family time.

We also got to celebrate an early St. Paddy’s Day with some of the most charming people you’ll ever meet.

A parade through Stockholm never disappoints and this one featured bagpipes, heaps of candy, the sweetest little leprechaun and flying bars of Irish Spring soap.

Sure and Begorrah, we had a fine time!

Then we tucked ourselves into the Humble Moon Saloon for some excellent music and fine repast. You won’t taste a better plate of corned beef this side of the Atlantic Ocean than the one Sarah serves at the Humble Moon.

We heard more bagpipe music, a fiddle and the excellent harmonies of Upper Miss — a band featuring our son Vinnie, his wife Danni (who met at a collegiate a capella competition), her former a capella group mates Katie and Grace, and Vinnie’s longtime friend, drummer Joe Hujet.

An approaching blizzard tried to crash our party, and the road home rose up to meet us far sooner than we would have liked.

Still, we loved our afternoon in the driftless region and were already penciling in St. Patrick’s Day in Stockholm next year.

In the meantime…

May peace and plenty bless your world

With joy that long endures

And may all life’s passing seasons

Bring the best to you and yours.

We love getting together with family and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with Vinnie and Danni has become a tradition for us. It’s extra fun when Danni’s parents Jeff and Deanna can join us.
The annual parade is always fun and check out that adorable leprechaun on this float!
Vince scored a bar of Irish Spring, which means he’s either lucky or scruffy or both. Ha ha. Manly yes, but I like it too.
The pipes the pipes were calling from inside and outside the saloon.
A fiddle player too!
We always love the chance to hear Upper Miss perform.
The paparazzi were out in full force.
Moose is an excellent sound guy.
A fun ditty that reminded me of Ireland. I was very tempted to sing along.
Their fourth vocalist Katie, soprano, was not able to make this gig so Vinnie filled in on this Wilson/Phillips song. It’s a pretty funny substitution but it worked.
