It seems to me we’ve dropped a few key words from our nation’s pledge.
Indivisible? We’ve become the very opposite.
Aspects of our American life that used to unite us — our sporting events and entertainment — now draw us into bitter debate.
I enjoyed the whole Super Bowl spectacle yesterday, which is hard for me to admit because my beloved Packers weren’t playing in it.
The stirring renditions of the pre-game anthems moved me, like I knew they would, and I had a good time watching the game itself.
We were lucky enough to know a few people attending the Super Bowl and their updates kept the family text chain lively.
I also enjoyed the halftime show. With apologies (lo siento mucho) to Señora Wisnefski, Spanish teacher extraordinaire, I must admit I didn’t catch most of the words.
But, I did understand the story and the rich way Bad Bunny shared it. The music also drew me in and I clumsily danced along.
It felt like a giant party to which we were all invited.
I understand that not all music appeals to all people.
But, it’s hard to know if you like a genre you refuse to hear.
If you did turn off the halftime show, you missed an important message.
Fortunately, my niece Mari was at the game and she captured this picture of the halftime show.

We have more in common than we think in this vast and beautiful country of ours and Bad Bunny is right. The only thing more powerful than hate is love.
I hope we can start finding our way toward love in the coming days — love of country and the people who live here.
And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.
