Have you seen the City Park Christmas Tree this year?
I wager she’s never looked better.
She took my breath away when I went careening up Drew Street and caught her brilliance out of the corner of my eye.
A thousand lights, no maybe ten times 10,000 lights beamed back at me.
I set aside my frantic schedule and circled the block for a closer look.
It seemed like every one of those tiny bulbs was sending out a message of good cheer. I couldn’t help but smile and send a little back.
Holiday cheer is generally reciprocal and I let those little lights shine, shine, shine right through me.
I stopped again the next night to breathe in all that Christmas magic and snap a picture or two.
Someone had decked out the ring dancers again and they looked cozy in their knit caps and scarves.
Having just wrestled my own Christmas lights onto the bushes in front of our house, I can’t imagine how long it must have taken to string all those lights on that beautiful tree.
Thank you to the City of Appleton and the Department of Public Works for giving us such a lovely display.
The City Park sidewalks are dressed in a holiday style that rivals Rockefeller Plaza.
It’s going to be a great Christmas season.
