Dear (Elton) John,
I bought my tickets the moment they went on sale because I wanted to see how wonderful life is while you’re in the world.
I grabbed the two best seats available. I’ve been a fan for nearly 50 years – your whole career – and I remember when rock was young.
Then I invited my sister Kathy, the one who used to bike downtown every Saturday to buy your 45 records with her allowance money, to join me. Right from the start, she gave you her heart.
Tuesday night concerts aren’t ideal for either of us, but we shifted some things, called in a few favors, made our plans and hey, hey, hey, you know what I mean.
Wednesday night, six days before the concert, my sister called and broke the news that you were rescheduling the concert to October 19 and now I have to ask you, what did Milwaukee do to offend you? I’m sure it was no sacrifice, no sacrifice at all for you to skip one of the 300 shows on your tour. But, why us? Is it written in the stars? Are we paying for some crime?
Who decided Fiserv , our state-of-the-art new arena, was the one? How did that date qualify as the “necessary window needed in the tour schedule to make some technical production adjustments”?
This ain’t no battle, it ain’t no war, but why do you need to make “technical production adjustments” anyway?
We weren’t going to your concert to watch a hologram, or some crazy light show. It would have been enough for this wide-eyed wanderer just to be with you.
So, I’m disappointed that it’s not going to happen next week
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
And I think it’s gonna be a long long time
until we finally get to see you.
Until then, I’ll be nursing my cold, cold heart hard done by you but I guess that’s why they call it the blues.
It’s sad. So sad. It’s a sad sad situation. And it’s getting more and more absurd.
